China and Philippines to set up alert system

China and the Philippines moved toward a rocket-launch notification system after disputes over Chinese space debris in Philippine waters.

– The Philippines lodged a diplomatic protest after a Nov 2022 incident in which its military said a Chinese coast-guard vessel forcibly took floating rocket debris being towed by a Philippine naval vessel.

– The Philippine military said the Chinese vessel blocked its ship twice before taking the debris.

– China’s foreign ministry confirmed the debris came from a Chinese rocket but said it had been transferred after a “friendly consultation.”
